Where the centre is and how to get there
The Burlington DriveTest Centre is at 1250 Brant Street, Unit 2, in the Burlington Power Centre plaza just north of the QEW and Highway 403 interchange. Exit the QEW at Brant Street and the plaza is immediately north. Parking is free and plentiful.
Burlington Transit buses on Brant Street stop at the plaza. Plan to be at the counter 30 minutes before your appointment.
What the test covers at Burlington
The G2 road test at Burlington is a city driving test of roughly 20 minutes. You will be scored on starting, stopping and turning; intersections of several types including left turns across traffic; at least one lane change with a visible shoulder check; parallel parking and a three-point turn; speed control through 40, 50 and 60 km/h zones; and general observation throughout. There is no highway portion on the G2.
The full G road test repeats the city elements and adds a highway section on the QEW and Highway 403, with the 407 nearby: merging, holding a steady speed with a two-second gap, one or more lane changes, and exiting. What the roads around Burlington DriveTest are like
- Brant Street is the city's main artery: multi-lane, busy, with plaza entrances, bus stops and a mix of 50 and 60 km/h limits. Lane changes and left turns across Brant Street are the backbone of a Burlington test.
- North Service Road and Fairview Street run parallel to the highways with fast traffic and long blocks, and are where examiners check speed control and following distance.
- Upper Middle Road and Guelph Line add signalled intersections with dedicated turn lanes and advance greens.
- Mountainside and Brant Hills are the residential neighbourhoods north of the plaza. Their gently curving streets, cul-de-sacs and school zones are the parking-manoeuvre and residential-speed section.
For the G test, Burlington is unusual in having the QEW, Highway 403 and the 407 all within minutes. Expect a merge, a stretch of steady 100 km/h driving in the right lane, and a clean exit, possibly through the QEW/403 split where lanes divide.
Where people lose marks at Burlington
- Brant Street left turns. Long blocks mean fast oncoming traffic. Commit to a safe gap and keep the wheels straight while you wait.
- The QEW/403 split. On the G test, missing the lane for your direction and correcting late is an unsafe lane change. Know which lane you need before the split.
- Residential speed. Mountainside streets are 40 km/h with school zones. Do not let the empty road pull you up to 50.
- Cul-de-sac turns. A three-point turn needs a check in both directions before each leg, and should not stretch to five points.
- Mirror-only lane changes. Examiners must see your head move. This is the most common marked fault at every centre, and Burlington is no exception.
Test-day plan for Burlington
