Where the centre is and how to get there

The Oakville DriveTest Centre is at 2370 Wyecroft Road, Unit B, in a commercial plaza just north of the QEW between Dorval Drive and Third Line. Parking is free in the plaza lot. From the QEW, exit at Dorval Drive or Third Line and you are there in two minutes.

Oakville Transit buses run along Wyecroft and Third Line, and Bronte GO station is a short ride west. Be at the counter 30 minutes before your appointment.

What the test covers at Oakville

The G2 road test at Oakville is a city driving test of roughly 20 minutes. You will be scored on starting, stopping and turning; intersections of several types including left turns across traffic; at least one lane change with a visible shoulder check; parallel parking and a three-point turn; speed control through 40, 50 and 60 km/h zones; and general observation throughout. There is no highway portion on the G2.

The full G road test repeats the city elements and adds a highway section on the QEW, with Highway 403 nearby: merging, holding a steady speed with a two-second gap, one or more lane changes, and exiting. What the roads around Oakville DriveTest are like

• Wyecroft Road is a two- and four-lane commercial road with plaza entrances, car dealerships and a mix of 50 and 60 km/h limits. It is where most Oakville tests start and finish.
• Third Line, Dorval Drive and Bronte Road run north-south to the QEW and carry fast traffic. Left turns across them at signalled intersections and lane changes between them are routine.
• Speers Road and Rebecca Street are the east-west collectors with bike lanes in places, so cyclists are part of the observation test here.
• Bronte and west Oakville residential streets south of Speers are the parking-manoeuvre section: parallel parking, three-point turns and 40 km/h school zones.

For the G test, the QEW is unavoidable. Merging from the Third Line or Bronte Road ramps into 100 km/h traffic, holding the right lane, and exiting cleanly is the routine, with Highway 403 close enough to appear on some tests.

Where people lose marks at Oakville

• Cyclists on Speers and Rebecca. Leave a full metre when passing, and shoulder check before any right turn across a bike lane.
• Plaza entrances on Wyecroft. Signal early, stop fully before the sidewalk when leaving a lot, and look both ways.
• Speed changes. Third Line is posted at 60 for stretches, then drops to 50 and to 40 in residential zones. Reading the signs as you turn is half the test.
• QEW merge on the G test. The ramps are long, so there is no excuse for merging slowly. Build to the flow speed on the ramp and check your blind spot before moving over.
• Lingering in the passing lane. On the QEW, return to the right lane after passing. Sitting in the left lane is marked.

Test-day plan for Oakville

1. Documents: your physical licence card (G1 for a G2 test, G2 for a G test), booking confirmation, glasses if required, and the car's ownership and insurance. The full list is in our road test checklist.
2. Warm-up drive: 30 to 60 minutes on the roads described above, right before your slot.
3. Arrive 30 minutes early at 2370 Wyecroft Road, Unit B, Oakville, just north of the QEW between Dorval Drive and Third Line.
4. During the test: narrate it in your head. Mirror, signal, shoulder, go. Full stops, steady speed, and commit to safe gaps.
5. If it does not go your way: get the examiner's report, book the first available retake, and take one lesson aimed at what was marked. What happens if you fail covers the wait, fees and rebooking.
