For the full G, expect a highway component; the 401 and 410 are both close to the centre. Where students lose marks most often is merging — entering too slowly, then over-correcting — along with rolling right turns on red and drifting wide on the turn back into a two-lane road. Most people assume MTO certification is the whole story. In Mississauga it isn't. The Ministry of Transportation issues the provincial driving instructor licence — that's the baseline anyone teaching in Ontario must hold. But the City of Mississauga separately requires a municipal driving school instructor's licence to teach here at all, issued under its business licensing by-law.

To get it, an instructor has to present their provincial MTO instructor licence, a valid Ontario Class G licence or better, proof they're 18 or older with the right to work in Canada, an Ontario driver's record pulled from the City's Mobile Licensing Office, and a letter of employment from a licensed operator. The licence is renewed annually and expires every March 31 — let it lapse more than a month and they start over as a brand-new applicant.
