How do I book a driving lesson?
Simply download the MrDriver app, create an account, browse available instructors in your area, and book a lesson at your preferred time. You'll receive instant confirmation and can communicate with your instructor directly through the app.
Are all instructors certified?
Yes, all instructors on our platform are certified professionals who have undergone thorough background checks and verification of their teaching credentials. We take safety seriously and only work with licensed, qualified instructors.
How do payments work?
Payments are processed securely through the app using Stripe. You can pay for individual lessons or purchase lesson packages at discounted rates. All transactions are safe, secure, and transparent with no hidden fees.
Can I reschedule a lesson?
Yes, lessons can be rescheduled through the app up to 24 hours before the scheduled time without any penalty. Simply open your booking details and select a new time that works for both you and your instructor.
What if I need to cancel a lesson?
You can cancel a lesson through the app. If canceled more than 24 hours in advance, you'll receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours may be subject to a cancellation fee depending on your instructor's policy.
Can I choose my instructor?
Absolutely! You can browse instructor profiles, read reviews from other students, check their availability, and choose the instructor that best fits your needs and preferences.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Students must meet Ontario's requirements for learning to drive, which typically means having a valid G1 learner's permit. Check with your chosen instructor for specific requirements.
How do I track my progress?
The MrDriver app includes progress tracking features where you can see your lesson history, instructor feedback, and improvements over time. This helps you stay motivated and prepared for your driving test.
How do I delete my account?
To delete your account, either visit the profile page in the app or email our support team at support@mrdriver.ca with your request. We will process your account deletion and remove your personal information in accordance with our privacy policy.
Is MrDriver only for male instructors?
Absolutely not! MrDriver is built for all licensed driving instructors, regardless of gender. The name is just a brand, not a limitation. We welcome and celebrate diversity among our instructor community.

The questions people ask every driving school in Ontario
Is MrDriver a driving school?
No. MrDriver is a marketplace that connects you directly with independent, licensed driving instructors near you. You choose your own instructor, see their rate before you book, and pay per lesson or per package rather than signing up with one school.
How many driving lessons will I need?
It depends on how much practice you already have. Learners who have never driven usually need somewhere around 10 to 20 hours with an instructor, plus private practice. Drivers who already have road time and are preparing for a G2 or G test often book 2 to 5 lessons to sharpen specific skills. Your instructor will tell you honestly where you stand after the first lesson.
Do I need a Beginner Driver Education (BDE) course?
It is not mandatory, but it has two real benefits. It shortens the G1 waiting period from 12 months to 8 months, and most insurers offer a discount for a completed BDE certificate. Some instructors on MrDriver are affiliated with MTO-approved course providers and offer full BDE packages that include the online classroom, the in-car hours and the certificate.
Will driving lessons lower my car insurance?
A completed BDE certificate from an MTO-approved course provider is the one that insurers generally recognise for a discount. Individual lessons on their own usually do not qualify. Ask your insurer what they accept before you book, since the discount and the rules vary by company.
How much do driving lessons cost?
Rates are set by each instructor rather than by us, so they vary by city and by what the lesson includes. Lessons start from $35 an hour in Toronto and from $40 an hour in Mississauga. You see the exact rate, vehicle, pickup area and lesson length before you book anything, and there is no membership fee or booking fee.
How long is a driving lesson?
Most instructors offer lessons of 1 to 2 hours. Ninety minutes is a common choice because it leaves time to get out to the roads you actually need to practise on. The lesson length is shown on the instructor's profile before you book.
Can I use my instructor's car for my road test?
Most instructors offer this, and it is usually booked as a road test package that includes a warm-up drive before the appointment plus the use of their insured, dual-control car for the test itself. Confirm it with your instructor when you book, since not every instructor offers it on every date.
Where does my instructor pick me up?
You set the pickup address when you book, and instructors list the areas they cover on their profile. Most will collect you from home, work or school as long as it falls inside their service area. Once the lesson is confirmed, in-app chat opens so you can sort out the exact meeting spot.
Do instructors teach in automatic or manual cars?
Almost all lessons in Ontario are taught in automatic cars, and the vehicle is listed on each instructor's profile. If you specifically need manual instruction, check the profile before booking, as far fewer instructors offer it.
How far in advance should I book a lesson?
A few days ahead is usually enough, though evenings and weekends fill up first. If you are booking a road test package, book as soon as you have your test date, because those appointments are often claimed weeks in advance at busy DriveTest centres.
How quickly will my lesson be confirmed?
Your request goes straight to the instructor, and most confirm within about 30 minutes. You will get a notification as soon as they accept, and the chat with your instructor opens at that point.
I already drive, but I am new to Ontario. Can I still take lessons?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people book. Experienced drivers from other countries usually need only a few hours to adjust to Ontario road rules, the way examiners score the test, and local habits like four-way stops and roundabouts. Tell your instructor your background so they can plan the lesson accordingly.
What should I bring to my first lesson?
Your valid Ontario licence or learner's permit, comfortable flat shoes, and your glasses or contacts if you need them to drive. That is all. The instructor supplies the car, and it is insured and fitted with dual controls.
Will my lessons cover highway driving?
Yes, if you need it. The full G test includes highway driving, so instructors preparing you for the G will take you onto 400-series highways to practise merging, lane changes at speed and clean exits. Highway driving is not part of the G2 test, so G2 lessons focus on city roads instead.
What happens if I fail my road test?
You can rebook the test through DriveTest, and there is a short waiting period before you can try again. Most people fail on a small set of repeatable things such as rolling stops, missed observation or hesitation. Book a lesson soon after and tell your instructor exactly what the examiner marked, so the next session targets that instead of covering everything again.
Do lessons run in winter?
Yes, and winter lessons are worth having. Learning how the car behaves on snow and ice, how to brake earlier, and how to steer out of a skid is far safer with an instructor beside you than discovering it alone in January. Instructors run winter tires, and lessons are only cancelled when conditions are genuinely unsafe.
Learning to Drive in Ontario
Licensing, practice and road test questions every learner asks
How old do I have to be to start driving in Ontario?
You can apply for your G1 at 16. You will need to pass a vision check and a written knowledge test on road signs and rules of the road at a DriveTest centre. There is no upper age limit, and a good share of the students booking lessons are adults learning for the first time.
What is the difference between a G1, G2 and G licence?
The G1 is the written stage. You hold it while learning, and you can only drive with a fully licensed driver of at least four years' experience beside you. The G2 comes after your first road test and lets you drive alone, including on highways. The full G comes after a second road test that adds highway driving and a higher standard on the basics.
How long does it take to get a full G licence?
You hold the G1 for 12 months before the G2 road test, or 8 months if you complete an approved Beginner Driver Education course. After that you hold the G2 for 12 months before the G road test. The whole process has to be finished within 5 years of getting your G1, or you start again.
Can I drive alone with a G1?
No. On a G1 you must have a fully licensed driver with at least four years of experience in the front passenger seat, and their blood alcohol must be under the legal limit. You also cannot drive between midnight and 5 a.m., and there must be no alcohol in your own system at all.
Can I drive on the highway with a G1?
Not on your own. G1 drivers are not allowed on 400-series highways or high-speed expressways unless a licensed driving instructor is in the car with them. That is one of the practical reasons to book lessons rather than only practising with a parent.
Do I need my own car for lessons?
No. Your instructor brings their own car. It is insured for instruction and fitted with a dual brake on the passenger side, so they can stop the car if they need to. You do not need access to a vehicle to start learning.
Am I insured during a driving lesson?
Yes. Instructors on MrDriver are required to carry commercial insurance that covers instruction, and we verify it before an instructor can take students. You are covered while driving their vehicle during a lesson.
Can my parent teach me instead of paying for lessons?
They can, and practice hours with a parent are valuable. What a parent cannot do is take you on 400-series highways while you are on a G1, or tell you how an examiner scores the test. Most students do both, using lessons for the parts that need a professional and private practice for repetition.
How much practice should I do between lessons?
As much as you can safely get. Lessons teach the technique, but the habits set in through repetition. A few hours a week of supervised practice between lessons will get you test-ready far faster than lessons alone, and it makes each paid hour go further.
I am a nervous driver. Can I still take lessons?
Yes, and it is more common than you would think. Tell your instructor when you book. A good instructor will start in a quiet area, keep the first sessions short and predictable, and build up to busier roads only when you are ready. The dual brake means they can stop the car at any point.
Do you offer refresher lessons for licensed drivers?
Yes. Plenty of students already hold a licence and book a few hours to rebuild confidence after a break from driving, after a collision, or before driving somewhere unfamiliar like downtown or a 400-series highway. Just tell your instructor what you want to work on.
How do I book my road test and what does it cost?
Road tests are booked through DriveTest, the province's test operator, online at drivetest.ca or by phone. You will need your Ontario licence number, and you pay the test fee when you book. Fees change from time to time, so check the current amount on drivetest.ca before you go.
What do I need to bring to my road test?
Your valid Ontario licence, your booking confirmation, and a roadworthy vehicle with valid insurance, working lights and signals, and a working handbrake. If you are using your instructor's car, they handle the vehicle side. Arrive early, because being late usually means losing the appointment and the fee.
Why do most people fail the road test?
Not for dramatic reasons. The common ones are rolling through stop signs instead of coming to a complete stop, not making observation obvious enough at intersections and lane changes, hesitating so long that the examiner marks it, and speed that drifts either side of the limit. All four are fixable with focused practice.
How soon can I retake my road test if I fail?
There is a short waiting period before you can retake it, and you rebook through DriveTest and pay the fee again. Book a lesson in between rather than just rebooking. Students who fix the specific thing the examiner marked pass far more reliably than those who simply try again.
Can I exchange a driver's licence from another country?
It depends on where it is from. Ontario has exchange agreements with a number of countries and provinces that let you skip some or all of the testing, while drivers from elsewhere go through the graduated system with credit for their experience. Check your own situation on ontario.ca, then book a lesson or two to adjust to how the test is scored here.

How do I become an instructor on MrDriver?
Download the MrDriver Instructor app, complete the application process, and submit your teaching credentials and certifications. Our team will verify your information and approve your account, typically within 2-3 business days.
What are the requirements to join?
You must have a valid Ontario driving instructor license, pass a background check, have proper vehicle insurance, and access to a teaching vehicle. You'll also need a smartphone to run the instructor app.
How do I get paid?
Payments are processed securely through Stripe and deposited directly to your bank account. You'll receive payment promptly after each completed lesson, minus a small platform fee.
Can I set my own prices?
Yes! As an independent instructor on our platform, you have the flexibility to set your own lesson prices based on your experience, location, and market demand.
How does the $75 bonus work?
New instructors who complete 15 lessons within their first month on the platform receive a $75 bonus as a welcome incentive. This bonus is automatically credited to your account.
