Know the centre before you go
Brampton road tests run out of the Brampton DriveTest Centre at 59 First Gulf Boulevard, off Steeles Avenue East near Highway 410. It handles a huge volume of tests, which means two things for you: book your appointment as far ahead as you can on drivetest.ca, and arrive at least 30 minutes early on test day so parking and check-in do not eat into your appointment.
Bring your G1 licence, your booking confirmation, and glasses or contacts if your licence requires them. If you are using an instructor's car, confirm the pickup plan the day before through in-app chat.
First, make sure you are eligible
You must hold your G1 for 12 months before taking the G2 road test, or 8 months if you completed a ministry-approved Beginner Driver Education (BDE) course. If you are not sure where you stand, check your letter of completion status before booking.
What the G2 test actually covers
The G2 exit test is a city road test. There is no 400-series highway portion; that comes later with the full G test. Over roughly 20 minutes, the examiner will score you on:
- Starting, stopping, and turning smoothly, including left turns across traffic
- Intersections: complete stops, correct right-of-way decisions, no rolling through on red-light right turns
- Lane changes with mirror checks and a shoulder check every single time
- Parallel parking and a three-point turn on a quieter side street
- Speed management, including school zones and residential streets
- General observation: what the examiner calls scanning, and what your instructor drills as mirrors every few seconds
Where Brampton students lose points
Instructors who teach test prep in Brampton week in and week out see the same failures over and over:
- Rolling stops. Stop means fully stopped, wheels not moving, for a beat. This is the single most common automatic fail.
- Missed shoulder checks. Every lane change and every turn where a bike or pedestrian could appear needs a head turn the examiner can see.
- Hesitation on multi-lane arterials. Roads like Steeles Avenue, Kennedy Road, and Queen Street move fast. Waiting too long for a gap reads as not being ready for the road.
- Speed drift. Brampton test routes mix 40, 50, and 60 km/h zones in quick succession. Know the default limits and watch for school zones.
How to prepare in the final two weeks
Practise in the area around the test centre so nothing feels new on test day. The streets around First Gulf Boulevard and the nearby residential pockets are where you will be tested on parking manoeuvres, so rehearse parallel parking there until it is boring.
Then do at least one full mock test with a licensed instructor. A good Brampton instructor will run the test route cold, score you the way an examiner would, and tell you honestly whether you are ready. Students who do mock tests walk in calmer because they have already failed the dry run and fixed the leaks.
Test-day checklist
- Sleep properly and eat something. Nerves are worse on an empty stomach.
- Documents: G1 licence, confirmation, glasses if required.
- Arrive 30 minutes early.
- Do a 30-to-60-minute warm-up lesson right before the test. Many instructors offer a road-test package that includes the warm-up and use of their car for the test itself.
- During the test, talk yourself through it: mirror, signal, shoulder, go. Examiners reward visible, deliberate observation.
Fail points are predictable, which means they are fixable. Put in the focused practice, and the Brampton pass is very winnable on the first attempt.
